"The Kuomintang (KMT) has been discussing that cross-strait war will occur if Lai Ching-te is president,” Mr. Lai emphasized. "If I become president, the probability of cross-strait war will be the lowest because I am the most capable of protecting the country's security."

He stressed that national security or peaceful cross-Strait development does not depend on the goodwill of the CCP or submitting a declaration of surrender to the CCP, nor does it depend on accepting the "1992 Consensus” with the CCP, giving up sovereignty, or accepting the CCP’s "One-China Principle" as the premise to sign a service trade agreement or peace agreement. “Taiwan must rely on its own strength to stand together with the world democracies and jointly exert the power of deterrence [against the CCP]."

賴清德強調：「國民黨一直說，如果賴清德當總統，兩岸就會發生戰爭。」、「如果我當總統，兩岸發生戰爭的可能性會是最低，因為我最有能力保護國家的安全。」

他強調，國家安全或兩岸和平發展，不取決於中共的善意，或向中共提交投降聲明；也不取決於接受放棄主權的「1992共識」或接受中共的「一個中國原則」，作為簽署服務貿易協議或和平協議的前提。「臺灣必須依靠自己的力量，與世界民主國家站隊，共同發揮威懾中共的力量。」
